Home-based Microprocessors (HBM) are individuals who grow and harvest produce to use in their value-added products. HBMs are required to grow a predominant ingredient in the products they make. The first step to becoming certified as a home-based microprocessor is to attend this required workshop. Examples of foods included in this program are canned tomatoes, tomato juice, pickled fruits and vegetables, salsa, barbecue sauce, pepper or herb jellies, vinegars, low or no-sugar fruit jams and jellies, and pressure-canned vegetables. Attend in-person at the Extension Office or tune in virtually on Zoom. The cost of the workshop is $50. Cash and checks accepted (checks payable to “Shelby County District Board”).
